Salvator Mundi to Arrive at the Louvre Abu Dhabi
December 7, 2017
Salvator Mundi, a painting of Christ, by Leonardo Da Vinci recently sold for a record (Dh1.65 billion), is heading to the Louvre Abu Dhabi!
The announcement partially resolves the mystery over the painting’s sale in November in New York. Auction house Christie’s had declined to identify the buyer, only saying that it received bids from around the world.
It is one of fewer than 20 paintings generally accepted as being from Di Vincii’s own hand. But get this, it sold in 1958 for (Dh221), when the painting was thought to have been a copy, and was lost until it resurfaced in 2005.
