Robot Skiing tournament at the Winter Olympics
February 13, 2018
During the ongoing Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea has seen a few firsts like ice skaters being allowed to perform to music with lyrics but it is also the first Olympic event to allow robots to compete in their own skiing tournament. The competition was called “Edge of Robot: Ski Robot Challenge.” The winner had to ski down the slope to the finish line the fastest while avoiding obstacles. We cannot get enough of these robots skiing.
Eight teams from research universities, institutes and a private company competed for $10,000. But the record-low temperatures are causing the robots to malfunction, the results have been entertaining and adorable as they ski down in child-sized outfits and ramp into the obstacle instead of avoiding them.
