Fixing Amazon Alexa’s creepy laugh
March 12, 2018
You might have heard about Amazon’s Alexa, getting her creep on – laughing unprompted like the video below. It went viral online with multiple users sharing their similar experiences and now Amazon has finally explained why Alexa is behaving this way. Apparently, in some instances, Alexa can mistakenly hear the phrase ‘Alexa, laugh.’ To resolve this, they are disabling this action and re-coding it to ‘Alexa, can you laugh?’ which is less likely to have a negative reaction. Amazon is also changing Alexa’s response from immediate laughter to her saying ‘Sure, I can laugh’ and then she laughs….kind of takes away from the pseudo-human interaction, but will surely avoid more awkward episodes. Good news if you do own an Alexa – Amazon reports the changes to fix this have already rolled out.
